The ink is barely dry on the oversized check that Paul Calia earned for winning last weekend’s NHC…and already it’s time to focus on the 2024 renewal of the world’s most prestigious handicapping contest.
As most of you know by now, Paul Calia of Kansas City, Missouri, captured last weekend’s NHC. Not only did he take the $800,000 grand prize, but he finished fourth with his other entry.
Take a peek at what a typical NHC contestant has up on his or her laptop at any given time during the tournament, and you are likely to find one of four things: Past performances, proprietary speed figures, an ADW site (even though that’s frowned upon) or HorseTourneys.
This week, the big room at Horseshoe Las Vegas might be as crowded on Thursday as it is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The final two direct, online qualifiers for the March 10-12 NHC will take place this Friday and Saturday at HorsePlayers. After that, the only remaining opportunity to get into the big dance will be through the First Chance/Last Chance qualifier next Thursday—and we’ll have a bunch of qualifiers for that event as well this weekend.
