No matter what your plans are Saturday…no matter from where you plan to watch Always Dreaming’s attempt to win the second jewel of the Triple Crown, you need to devote at least part of your day to HorsePlayers where the very best type of Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) qualifier will be offered—a free one!
That’s right—it’s a bona fide “free roll” with no fees of any kind and with the winner receiving a full, $10,000 entry to the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (which, of course, could turn into hundreds of thousands of dollars if you get lucky there). Heck, even if all you have time to do is pick names, there’s no reason not to play this gift of a tournament.
And that big $10,000 BCBC entry isn’t the only prize. The top 50 finishers behind the winner (places 2-51) will receive a $20 credit for entry into a future BCBC feeder tournament at HorsePlayers. If you’re a contest veteran, you know this contest is a no brainer to enter. And if you’re new to the tournament scene, rest assured that there is no better way to dip your toe into the waters than to play a contest in which you risk nothing.
Everyone is welcome, so tell your horseplaying friends. The only requirements are that you must be 21 years of age and have a HorsePlayers or HorseTourneys account (which is free as well!). Entries are limited to one per person and to two per household.
Saturday’s BCBC free roll is a Pick & pray tourney, meaning you must enter all your selections (including any alternate plays) prior to post time of the first contest race. Once those picks are in, you’re free to spend the rest of the day as you wish…watching the Preakness on TV, watching the Preakness in person if you’re lucky enough to be at Pimlico or… as the contest format suggests…just praying for your horses to win.
Obviously the BCBC free roll will be very popular (as are most free things!). But if you prefer to play for a BCBC or NHC entry with less competition, there will be ample opportunity to do so this very same weekend.
On Friday, May 19, HorsePlayers hosts another of its new and very popular Guaranteed BCBC-NHC Combo qualifiers whereby the winner(s) earns a coveted spot at BOTH the BCBC and NHC. One winner is guaranteed regardless of participation, and if we reach 130 entries in this live-format contest, we’ll toss in a second “double prize”. It’s never easy to qualify for these prestigious tourneys, and in Friday’s combo qualifier you can kill two very prized birds with one stone. Entry for the combo qualifier is $344 with a maximum of two entries per person.
In addition to the BCBC free roll on Saturday, HorsePlayers will host a Preakness Day NHC qualifier with two seats guaranteed to be awarded no matter how many sign up. Entry for this one is $165, and this, too, is a live-format tourney. If you play both tournaments and are really lucky, you just might have created your own “combo qualifier”.
On Sunday, the Preakness will be in the history books but the HorsePlayers Preakness weekend will still be going strong with another BCBC qualifier (live format once again). This one is also guaranteed, with one prize awarded no matter what, and entries costing $179.
