Bigger, Better NHC Bonus in Play for 2018 Winner of The BIG One

The BIG One, to be contested on September 22-23, 2018 at Laurel Park, has already gotten bigger for this year’s renewal—thanks to the addition of two Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge entries to the 2018 prize pool (bringing the total number of BCBC spots up for grabs to 10, along with the usual 10 NHC seats and 10 Horseplayer World Series entries).

Now The BIG One bonus – payable should the winner of The BIG One go on to win the 2019 NHC – has gotten bigger, and better, as well.

Last year, Ed Peters of Pelham, NH, won The BIG One, thereby making himself eligible for what was then the first-ever The BIG One/NHC Bonus—a $500,000 lump-sum cash bonus payable had he gone on to win the 2018 NHC.

We’ve stepped things up a bit for 2018-2019.

This year, the winner of The BIG One will receive a choice of a $1 million bonus, payable via annuity over 40 years, or a $575,000 lump-sum cash bonus should he or she emerge victorious at next year’s NHC.

There must be at least 500 entries at the NHC for the bonus to be in effect. (Last February’s NHC had more than 700 entries.) Should the winner of The BIG One have two entries at the NHC, he or she must designate in advance which one of the two entries will be “bonus-eligible.” Other than that, no fine print!

Qualifiers to the 2018 continue to be offered every other Sunday at HorseTourneys, with two all-inclusive packages—including hotel accomodations, travel stipend, welcome dinner and full amenities—guaranteed in each competition. The BIG One field is limited to a maximum of 57 players—50 via HorseTourneys qualifiers, two via onsite qualifiers at Laurel Park and up to five buy-in entries.
