Lucrative Tourney Triple Bonus Series Returns in 2022

One of HorseTourneys’ most popular innovations in 2021, the Tourney Triple bonus series, is back for 2022.

Offering a $2 million bonus to anyone who can sweep all three events—or a $1 million bonus to anyone skillful enough to take two of the three series legs—the Tourney Triple will again be comprised of the Flo-Cal Faceoff (January 15-16, with an increased guaranteed purse of $250,000), the Players Championship (April 9-10. $350,000 Gtd.) and the Spa & Surf Showdown (expected to again take place in August, $450,000 Gtd.).

In addition to potential giant bonus payouts, three valuable bonus prizes will definitely be won by those who perform the best across the three events.

In each event, we will award points based on a formula that allocates 100 points for a first-place finish, 99 points for second, 98 for third, down to 1 point for a 100th-place finish. (If you play multiple entries in a single tourney, only your best score counts.)

The overall points leader at the end of the Tourney Triple will receive a $10,000 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) entry and a 2023 National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) entry — or $5,000 in lieu of an NHC seat if the winner is already double-qualified to the 2023 NHC.

The person with the second-most points will earn a 2022 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) entry, and the third-place points earner will receive an entry to the 2022 edition of The BIG One.

In 2021, Anthony Mattera picked up the BCBC and NHC seats for an incredible run that saw him record a Top-10 finish in each of the three Tourney Triple events. Douglas Schenk landed in the Top 30 of all three competitions to finish second in the final bonus standings and grab a $10,000 BCBC entry. Basil DeVito, meanwhile, improved his finishing positions from 70th in the Flo-Cal Faceoff to 17th in the Players Championship to 4th in the Spa & Surf Showdown. That final performance raised him from 17th in the Tourney Triple standings to 3rd, and he took home the starting berth in the following month’s The BIG One.

You needn’t do anything or pay anything to become “bonus eligible.” Just play in one or more of the Tourney Triple events, and you’ll automatically be registered.

Without question, each of the three Tourney Triple events is lucrative in its own right. Alan Levitt earned $205,000 for capturing the 2021 Flo-Cal Faceoff; Dan Wilde pocketed $213,000 for his Players’ Championship victory; and Randy Miller received $235,000 following his Spa & Surf Showdown triumph. The beauty of the Tourney Triple bonuses, though, is that they help to reward consistency as well. Of course, your chance to win one of the three bonus prizes improves significantly if—like Mattera, Schenk and DeVito—you participate in all three competitions, starting with the Flo-Cal Faceoff ($1,500 buy-in) on January 15-16. We hope you can join us for that important opening leg next month.
